You were a good year!

My last day of being 37 is today. That means I have 730 days left before I’m 40. I find myself reflecting on the years when I thought 40 was ‘forever’ away. And now, I can see it. It’ll be here before I know it.

Who said that 40 is the new 30? I love that person.

I graduated from high school in 1986 and I thought the year 2000 was an eternity away. Now in the year 2007, it seems like high school was just yesterday and sometimes I act like I’m still in high school. Why not? I’m almost 40, I can do whatever I want right?

Argh! Happy Birthday to me.

Now this is one I live by. I always sleep on my back. At first it was a hard habit to get into because sleeping in fetal position is very comfortable. I admit I occasionally do it for a bit, but long term, all those creases on your face from being smooshed up against the pillow could soon be permanent.

Think about it. If your face is creased up for 6-8 hours at a time, eventually those creases won’t go away. If you sleep on your back, you avoid the risk of having those unnecessary lines.

I know this is only my opinion and not proven by anybody. Just sounds like it makes sense. Certainly couldn’t hurt.

That’s right on your face.

Now I personally have not done this, but I am not opposed to trying it. I figured I’d put this out there because my husband’s aunt swears by this. This is an old Hollywood beauty secret that goes way back. The theory is the Preparation H ‘tightens’ right? So why not put in on your face to help keep your pores tight?

My husband’s aunt is 51, she looks amazing. I can’t say I would attribute it all to the PH, but it surely did not hurt. She applies daily before bed under her moisturizer and daily in the morning under her make up.

I finished my last treatment of Foto Facials aka the IPL laser. I did four treatments over the course of 5 months and I am happy with the results. When I saw my before and after photos I was pleased to see the difference. I know my friends and family probably wouldn’t notice, but I do. Then again, they aren’t looking at my face through a 5x magnified mirror like I do every night. Regardless, I would do it again and may do it again in a few years unless of course there is something better on the market by then.

If you’re in Southern California and want to try it I went to Advanced Dermatology, Dr. Raskin in Santa Clarita. His office is off the 5 freeway at McBean Pkwy (by Magic Mountain).

Getting old sucks.  I mean I don’t feel old, but then when I look in the mirror all I see are wrinkles.  Recently, on top of the wrinkles I see spots on my face.   New ones everyday.  It’s hard because I do feel like I have to keep up and try to stay looking young.

Enter, the Foto Facial.  Getting a Foto Facial is kind of scary at first.  I mean you have to sign this release basically saying that it could burn your face, you may get scars, yada yada.  Yet somehow, the desperation takes over and you are willing to do anything to rejuvenate your skin.

So, I lie down on the table, then nurse comes in and applies this thick gel on my face that is really cold.  I think it’s the same stuff they use for ultra sounds.  She covers my eyes with goggles, then the doctor comes in to do the laser.  So, it doesn’t hurt.  It stings a tiny bit in some areas where there is more pigment.  It takes about 5 minutes.  After the procedure, I wash my face apply sunscreen and I’m done.  My face is slightly red.  The doctor said the more treatments I do, the redder my face should be when I leave.  That sounds scary.

For the week after the procedure, I see some of the brown spots literally flake off like a scab.  My skin is dryer than normal.  It does look better though.  Fine lines have diminished a bit.  I know this because I am totally obsessed with looking at them.

I am going in today for my third treatment.  So far so good, I like what I’m seeing.
